By car:

Lochinver harbour from SuilvenThe roads in the Northwest Highlands have been greatly improved and the car journey from the nearest city, Inverness, takes only about 2 hours (95 miles).

From the south take the A9 North, then the A835 to Ullapool and Ledmore Junction, where the A837 leads on to Lochinver. Take a right turn on entering the village and follow the road to the end where Glendarroch House is situated.

By air:

Assynt sunsetThe nearest airport is Inverness (100 miles) which has frequent connections to London (Gatwick and Luton) and other major cities. Both Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen airports have international flights, with good road connection on to Inverness. Car hire is available at all these airports as well as Inverness city centre.

By rail:

Canisp from the summit of SuilvenThe nearest main railway station is Inverness which has frequent connections to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and other major cities. There is also the overnight Caledonian Sleeper service from London. Again, car hire is available in Inverness city centre.

By public transport:

There is also a bus service between Lochinver and Ullapool/Inverness but we do recommend that a car is necessary to take full advantage of your holiday. To investigate public transport options Traveline Scotland is a useful website. Caledonian Macbrayne ferries run between Ullapool and Stornoway and day trips are available to the Isle of Lewis at some times of year.
